Tax Deadline Put Back By HMRC over Strike

No fines will be handed out to anyone who submits their self-assessment tax returns online in the first two days of February.

The official deadline for submitting forms is 31 January, but a planned strike for that day is set to cause last-minute disruption.

So HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has effectively put back the deadline by two days.

More than two million people have still to file their returns online. The tax authority has changed the procedure after announcing earlier that there would be leniency owing to the strike.

SFB advises that you should obtain an electronic receipt confirming the successful submission of your Tax Return, should a late enquiry be attempted, to ensure that, you can demonstrate that the Return was filed during the ‘relaxed’ period and before midnight on 2nd February.
